about

All of these tunes started off as one-take, live looping performances. Last Tree Standing is an example of a track with no subsequent overdubs. In contrast, The Letter is a bit of an overdub-fest with 12 separate parts.

The tracks were recorded into a computer using my live rig - basically a few pedals, running stereo into a couple of mic'd valve guitar amps. I didn't do any fancy effects processing in the computer, so what you hear in the digital domain, is pretty much what you would hear sat next to me in front of my amps, but without the awkward silence...

These recordings haven't been mastered aggressively volume-wise (see "the loudness wars" vs. Turn Me Up!) so you may have to crank your volume up a bit to enjoy the full dynamic range. I think my music sounds better that way, especially on nice headphones - I hope you agree.

In case you're wondering, the picture is actually my guitar and was made by Clive Rees, who is based in Cambridge, UK. This particular model is called the Rapport. See what I did there?

Many thanks to Bill P and Anne C for patiently listening to various versions of these tunes many, many times and reminding me at the most appropriate moments that less, really is more. Thanks also to Barry at Safeandsound mastering for the sensitive, subtle and musical enhancements applied during the mastering stage.

And finally, thanks to you, for listening! -Rob W Jackson
